Homemade Birdseed Blocks
(Yield one 7 X 6.5 X 2" block)

Homemade_Seed_Block.jpg

3/4 Cup warm water
4 1/2 Tbsp. corn syrup
2 Packages of plain Knox gelatin
1+ Cup flour

2 Cups raw peanuts
2 Cups sunflower seeds
2 1/2 Cups bird seed
1 Cup raisins/cranberries

Collect everything you need ahead of time as once you start, you will have very little time before it starts setting up.

On a flat surface, set your form on a piece of wax paper. Spray the inside of your form with a cooking spray (I use PAM) to help act as a release agent.

In a large bowl, combine the last 4 ingredients & mix it all together. Set it aside while you make the 'glue'.

In another large bowl, thoroughly combine the first 3 ingredients before incorporating the flour.

Add the bowl containing the peanuts/birdseed to the 'glue' & mix well.

Press the resulting mixture into your form as tightly as you can, especially in the corners & along the sides. When done, set it aside for a couple of days to dry.

Enjoy watching your birds have at it, espectally the jays & woodpeckers!!!
