Waiting on repair man to come get us back in communications, Fiber optics are nice until they go out. Haven't had service phone or computer since Friday. Found out I could use my phone as a hot spot to get by.

I never understood the benefit of fiber cable in a house... I know it is faster in a pure fiber environment, but many have cat 5 or maybe cat 6 wire so you will have limited bandwidth regardless (unless the house is 'rewired' with fiber cable).

Yeah, I am not up on all that. I do know the fiber runs all the way to where all the router and such plugs into. I don't know if it was any faster than the old system.

And you won't if your computer/TV is connected to the router via copper wire. If you use WiFi, the speed is determined that router.

We just got fiber at our house and just like Ranch says, the CAT 5 cuts the speed down quite a bit. In my shop where they mounted the main fiber converter I'm getting 950 Mbs at that computer. In the house where it travels thru CAT5 and then Wifi we get about 350 Mbs. But, this seems to be way fast enough to handle anything we can throw at it.
