Yep, you are exactly right. South Texas deer are bigger than East Texas and Central Texas deer. West Texas Deer are a little bigger than South Texas deer. But... they all taste good in the frying pan..
16,000 seems like a lot to feed deer, but it costs a lot more than that to feed them the tips of the side branches from Ornamental Trees that are half grown to market size. I loved to see deer around the farm but had given up hunting before i moved there. After trying the gas gun and stink repellent and such i finally gave up and put deer fence around all the growing ground.
The years winter feed was short, not near as many fawns would be born so the herds never varied too much.
