Well that sucks... I bet your back & neck hurt bad enough for a trip to the hospital.
I really wanted to cut the grass today, but between the heavy dew & still having standing water it didn't happen... Suppose to be cold again starting tomorrow...
Fed the cattle.
Cut up the branch from the live oak & then continued pruning the fruit trees.
Harvested 2 more heads of broccoli.

Made another loaf of rolled-wheat bread.
Then made a blueberry cobbler for dessert tonight.
Put out hay for the cattle as the temperature will be below freezing the next few nights.

Refilled the bird feeders.
Watered the garden & everything in the greenhouse. Then I turned off the main valve & drained the irrigation system.
Turned on the heat lamp in the well house.
Drained the hoses & installed the insulated covers on all the faucets.
Harvest some kohlrabi for tonight’s supper... Mrs. Ranch sliced them up & is going to make 'home fries'!!! Also harvested a bunch of both red & green lettuce ahead of tonight's big freeze.

Have you posted this recipe here and I've missed it or what? That bread looks so darn good.
I managed to put up my new LED motion light yesterday before it rained again. Today we've got a touch of snow so I thought it only makes sense to make some chili while watching the football game and having myself a cold one.
Not yet... I'll document it either tomorrow or the day after when I make it again. It is good, especially as toast per Mrs. Ranch & 'Kee Kee'.
Mike, I'm doing OK. Neck and back still hurt. The sad part is, I'll probably get totally hosed by the insurance company. I took really good care of that truck, it would have lasted me another 300k miles minimum. I'll likely be driving a 1986 Jeep CJ-7 when this is all over. It's been sitting in my garage for years. Just a little more to go to get her running. Sigh, I've been getting kicked in the nuts lately. I hope this pattern ends soon lol.
Still cold here, so very little got done, but we still had to eat... The women did everything, with the exceptions of the bread & the dishes, LOL!!! The spinach lasagna & salad were first rate!!!

Today was our shopping day, but I did harvest 2 more kohlrabi as Mrs. Ranch is going to make 'french fries' with them again. Yummy stuff!!!

Refilled bird feeders (they sure blew through it this week!!!).
Received the seed order for the spring garden. I get them started the last week of the month.

Been generally below zero F around here for a few days. Tomorrow is supposed to get above freezing though. Sunday has a high of 5 F though. Oh well so goes winter.
I did see that Home Depot had the seed racks up when I was buying a new snow shovel this weekend. Some jack wad stole my shovel.

Made a pot of garbanzo (chickpeas) beans so we can add them to our fresh garden salads.
Cleaned & parted out 3 whole chickens that we picked up yesterday. Got them vacuum packed & put in the freezer.
Harvested some more spinach & swiss chard for tonight's grilled chicken salad.
Made a batch of stuffed jalapenos.
Fed cattle & put out another roll of hay. Starting to drizzle here... 66 degrees.

Received the new dehydrator yesterday, so today I cleaned it real good & put it to work on the kohlrabi. Since I'm kind of getting a late start, I'm making chips so they'll be done before bedtime. The KitchenAid slicing attachment made short work of that job & the chip are all uniform in thickness!!!

Here you go. I should have taken a before picture to illustrate just how much shrinkage occurs in the dehydration process.
Cold & raining today... Made Italian bread this morning & watched movies all day.

Let me preface this by I have a weak spot for old tools and like using hand tools.
I stopped by the other local used tool store today and walked out with a handful of tools. The cool haul today is a coffee can full of auger style brace bits for $8. Pulled these out when I got home and there are 9 "Lakeside" bits ranging from 1" down to 1/4", three small range cheaper bits (1/4 to 3/8") stamped "Japan" and one 2" to 3" adjustable Craftsman bit. The 5 bits I've tried nicely without touching them but they will each get attention and sharpening still. I haven't spent much time looking yet but it looks like Lakeside tools started as a tool maker in Chicago that was picked up by Montgomery Ward's department store and run as the store brand. The Lakeside stamping on the shaft of each bit is in a flowing cursive script.
I also got two more double taper (triangular cross section) saw sharpening files and finally picked up an ice scraper / spud for $5. I've only been wanting one for 8 years now.

On our way to -3 F tonight. Tomorrows forecasted high is 5 F.

Essentially it is a shovel handle with a straightened hoe on the end. File it to a chisel point and it works much easier.
These are the brace bits. At this point I have drilled holes with each of them, they work but will benefit from sharpening. The adjustable is not working well but I have an identical one already.
The Lakeside bits look to be sized by the 1/16" and marked on the chuck tang (or what ever you would call that) I have a 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16. So that would work out to 5/16" through 1"
