Still on the chilly side, but at least it's up to 56 degrees.

Replaced the carburetor on my tiller & adjusted it. I'm ready to go whenever the ground dries out some.

Did the weekly shopping (3 stores again). I talked to the meat department managers & asked them what was going on with the meat being put in plastic bags & they told me they can't get the Styrofoam trays. This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Made a big pot of vegetable/beef/barley soup which will hold us for the rest of the week.

Vacuum pack the sirloins & chicken drumsticks I picked up yesterday.

Mrs. Ranch is in the process of making new window valences (her ongoing redecorating project) & she wanted me to paint the frames for them that I made 20 yrs ago, so that is what I did.

Put out more hay for the cattle.

Made bread..

Finished painting the 1st batch of valence frames for Mrs. Ranch.

Cut back the hanging baskets for the winter & watered them. They are now ready to be moved into the green house on short notice whenever the freezing weather arrives.

Started the 'begining-of-the-month' chores.

The septic system guy came out to do the quarterly maintenance.

Did some weeding in the garden. Then dumped everything on the burn pile.

Cleaned the ranch sign at the NW corner of the property as it was covered with mildew & the doors on the barn.

Sprayed 'ScotchGuard' on Mrs. Ranch's new window valences. When they were dried, I attached them to the frames & rehung them. She's now working on making the 2nd batch of them.

Made a German chocolate cake for our neighbors & a fudge cake fo our dessert.

Rotor-tilled the area in front of the garden & then raked the dirt on top of the propane tank as the area is still settling.

Made bread.

Cleaned the last 2 hummingbird feeders & put them in storage until next season.

Refilled the redbird feeders & put out a suet block.

Put out another roll of hay for the cattle.

Pulled the buck board bacon out of the cure & soaked it in fresh water. Then got them trussed up with butcher string before rubbing them down with honey & rolling them in cracked pepper. They are now resting in the refrigerator in the guesthouse. I hope to smoke them tomorrow over apple wood coals. In case y'all forgot what it looks like:

The buck board bacon went on the smoker @ 0900 hrs. Its running at 225 degrees, over apple wood coals. And as luck would have it, no sooner than I got started, a cold front blew in & it started raining... it was suppose to arrive tonight.

Prep my garden hand tools for refurb. I've had these cast aluminum tools for over 30 years.

Put out another roll of hay.

Started prepping some tools that were rusting with phosphoric acid.

Made a pot of Cajun red beans since the weather is so nasty. Red beans & rice for supper tonight!!!

Prepped my garden hoe for spring. Cleaned, treated it with phosphoric acid, sharpen it enough that it will slice/dice a snake into small pieces if required, then repainted the head. I'll do the handle tomorrow.

Wiped all the tools I did yesterday with lacquer thinner. Many of them are so discolored that I decided to spray paint them to stop them from rusting again.

Took the truck into have the batteries replaced (under warranty).

Picked up molasses tubs & mineral/sulphur blocks for the cattle. Also got 4 more sacks of gypsum for the clay in front of the greenhouse.

Assisted Mrs. Ranch in making the Christmas cookies. We made 2 batches of biscotti, one with almonds/dried cherries & the other with pistachio/dried cranberries.

Drizzling rain again today, just like yesterday...

Made bread.

Finished painting the tools, except for the handle of my garden hoe. In a couple of days I'll be able to dip their handles.

Continued making Christmas cookies (magic bars today) with Mrs. Ranch.
