About two weeks ago I seeded 20 pepper plants. About half of these had emerged and were sitting nicely in the sun over the weekend and yesterday. Today, while I was at work, something snipped all the taller emerged seedlings off. I suspect it was one of the local gluttonous sparrows. I re-seeded about 12 cubes a few minutes ago and no I have no clue what cultivar is planted where in the trey.

Tomatoes, peppers, basil, and marigolds are back inside for the week.

Yesterday was upper 70s and full sun.

Today was low 60s and partly cloudy with on and off rain.

Potatoes are holding their own after the flood. More rain on the way. Lost a few tomato plants already.

Received another 0.31" of rain around noon time.

Did the weekly shopping.

Hung 2 of the 4 new vanity lights (Mrs. Ranch's bathroom & at the guest house). Staged everything in the master bath for installing the last two. I was going to do everything today, but the boss told me to sit down & relax. She then handed me a margarita (I love that woman!!!).

Finished the 7-layer cookies.

Got home from work yesterday to see the potatoes stressing in a bad way. Tomatoes, even worse.

Installed the last 2 vanity light fixtures in the master bath & populated them with Cree LED bulbs.

Made a pot of pinto beans & Mrs. Ranch made some fresh Pico de Gallo. I'll also make some rice to go with our fish tacos for tonight's supper.

Highs in the mid 60s F and heavy clouds

First row of peas is up and needs thinning.

Beets just starting to emerge from the ground.

Mowed the lawn - 20 minutes of my life wasted.

Noticed that the towers of mulch bags are out at each gas station for the season. Why is it that all the gas stations sell bags of mulch? Is this just a midwest thing?

Must be Mr. Yan... I've never seen it myself, but then again, times are getting tough & one has to do whatever to feed their families/pay their bills...

How big is the bag, what kind of mulch & how much???

Potatoes looking a little better today. Tomatoes holding their own. Got lucky for the 3rd day straight with rain, less than 1/8th inch today. Everything is a nasty mess outside, smells like death.

Yep, smells like rot here too... got another 0.26" here. less than what was forecasted, thankfully.

And the dry out officially begins. Noticed most of my onions look like total hell yesterday. I think they caught some type of fungus after all the rain. Oh well, quite a few of them could be harvested already as they are decent size. I'll leave them in for a few more weeks and see what happens.

Made bread.

Took Mrs. Ranch shopping for sanitas wall-covering, which is a fabric-backed, HD vinyl wallpaper. She's on a tear making me finish the house...

Burned all cardboard boxes from this weeks deliveries.

Replaced all the rechargeable battery packs in our cordless phones.

Currently 37 F out. High today forecast 68. High tomorrow forecast 78. So goes the midwest.

Just sprayed down the back lawn.In a few hours I will scratch it with a rack and overseed it with more grass seed.

This weekend's to do list:
Over seed back lawn
Plant seed blocks wth herbs
Transplant kale and beets (from starter cubes)
Get the trerllis started for the peas to climb
Glue up the second side of my work bench top
Paint second coat on my son's bike frame
Get my oldest daughter on inline skates

Replanted green beans, cucumbers & some of the sweet corn due to our recent heavy rains drowning them... I hope they produce this year as it is kind of late in the season. Then I fertilized everything.

Made pizza dough & sauce for tonight's supper.

Watered the hanging baskets.

Snatched a few onions out of the garden. They didnt seem to like the raised bed soil much, probably too loose. Oh well, we should still have plenty to last a long time.

They look good to me. I have a few that I noticed that have fallen over (thankfully none have bolted yet from our up/down temperatures)... I'm going to pull them tomorrow morning & let them cure.

We got some big ones coming... I need at least another 5 weeks to get some 'lunkers'... I'd really like to score a 3 pounder before I die. Hell, I'd take it to a taxidermist & have it mounted, LOL!!!

Went shopping & picked up 2 good-sized Boston butts. I boned them out & got them in the curing solution for buckboard bacon (total of 19.75 lbs.).

Had the yearly preventative maintenance done on the air conditioning systems done.

Made another pot of pinto beans to go with our chicken fajitas (for tonight's supper).

Cleaned & vacuum-packed 14 chicken breasts.

Finished painting a magazine rack for the master bathroom.

I mentioned that some of the onions had 'fallen over' a few days ago... well it rained here again last night & we are expecting another 2.5" over the next few days, so I pulled them all this morning. I was hoping for some 'lunkers' this year (I needed another 4-5 weeks of growth for that), but I just didn't what to chance them rotting. I spread them out on the picnic tables in the party barn to cure. It's so wet in the garden that I'm worried about my potatoes too.

I also pulled a few garlic to check on their size & segmentation. They aren't looking very good either...

Made 2 loaves of buttercrust sandwich bread.
