Did the damage assessment. Not good. Lost some nice mesquite trees. It’s a mess. Storm was worse than I expected. Power is out as the line finally burned through out front.

We're up to 1.10" here & it's just a steady, light rain. No lightning, no thunder... I only see 1 tree branch down. The winds are less than expected. Since midnight, we've averaged 25.1 MPH, & the highest gust was 30.9 MPH.

You guys stay safe.

Continued detailing the Gator.

Harvested/diced more jalapenos & bell peppers for the picante sauce.

Ran up to town to pick up some odds & ends... 2 days till my eye surgery.

Fed the cattle.

Finished dicing the green peppers & onions for the special batch of picante sauce. I need to have it done so I add the cilantro & finish canning it tomorrow.

Picked up a load of cattle feed.

Added the chopped cilantro to the picante sauce & canned it up. We got 8 quarts of my 'Diablo' version for my spice-loving neighbor!!!

Cleaned the wasp traps.

Well .. That sucked a bit.. Saw gusts to 102 here in Hitchcock. Trees and fences down all over town. We were without power for only 2.5 days so not too bad. I've got generators and window units and had ample gas so really not much of a problem electricity wise. My mom lives across town and had to stay by herself at 86 because she has Covid.. couldn't convince her to leave.. She had 5 trees down and one on the house but never lost power. Wind driven rain came in my french doors upstairs and collapsed part of my living room ceiling.. Gutters ripped off one side of the house.. LOTS of limbs and the fence is down between me and the neighbor.. All of the bee hives came through just fine.. they're really really heavy though so I wasn't too surprised. My fish camp at St. louis Pass made it too .. which was surprising. Once again, I gotta get back to work so I can rest.. Been a while since I spent that much time behind a chainsaw in the heat.

I feel your pain as I lived in Missouri City/Sugarland for 40 years. Brother in Clute doesn’t expect to get power back until end of the day Monday. He has a tree down in the front yard and one laying on his roof. Guy wants $2200 to remove it.

Went for my post-surgery checkup, then swung by the Can-Am dealer to pick up the parts I had on order.

Made 2 quarts of buttermilk ranch dressing for our neighbors.

Stripped the seats out of the Gator, as the new ones are arriving tomorrow.

Heard that a dear friend of 25 yrs. was found dead in his recliner this afternoon... He was 64 yrs old.

Really sorry to hear about your friend. Good lesson for all of us there to make sure we let people know how much they mean to us.. you just never know.

Made a big molasses cake for our neighbors. I'll bring it down to them when it cools down enough.

Our 'grandson' came down to feed the cattle since I not suppose to lift anything. I arranged with him to feed them every other day until he goes back to school. He's getting to that 'growth spurt' stage, so the next few years will be interesting to watch the changes. He's going to be a big boy, LOL!!!

Watered the porch pots & hanging baskets again. It's going to be another hot day here.

Continued prepping the Gator.

Justin came down to feed the cattle.

Had a good trip in the National Parks. Went to Yosemite and Kings Canyon. The areas we visited were surprisingly conservative. Now I have start tackling the cleanup from the storm.

Brined 10lbs of chicken legs with No 1 prague powder for 24 hours and slow smoked them on the pellet grill. Came out great.. vac sealed them to send back to college with the kids. Also smoked a pineapple and made a bakers dozen of half pints of smoked pineapple habanero glaze to put over cream cheese.

Working from home today so I can take out the upstairs french doors, fix the sub floor and my ceiling from the storm damage. Still waiting on the gutter guys to show up.. he's pretty backed up.
