We hit a low of of 18 degrees this morning & a high of 39 in the afternoon. Needless to say, we have another fire going.

The garden is toast... everything. I grabbed 3 kohlrabi to thaw out that I hoped to add to our supper, but they turned to mush when they thawed. I'm PO'd.

Prepped/roasted a standing rib roast for our Christmas supper. Tomorrow I'll do the venison backstrap.

Prime_Rib_Roast_1.jpg

Made cinnamon/pear rolls & they'll do a slow rise in the refrigerator overnight. This is one of our Christmas traditions.

Fed the cattle & put out another roll of hay.

Made the cinnamon/pear rolls in time for breakfast.

Smoked the venison backstrap & sliced it for snacking on.

Worked on my cookbook for a couple of hours & then spent some quality time with the family.

Made bread.

Fed the cattle.

Cleaned the asparagus bed & burned all the 'trash'. Then fertilized it, so it's ready to be mulched tomorrow.

The welder & his son got started this morning demolishing the old pen. They then re-drilled the holes for the pipe posts & got the pipe cut to length. They got 7 of the new posts concreted in.

The welder & his son showed up this morning & finished setting the remaining pipe posts. I was surprised that they worked today, given that this is Sunday & a holiday...

R&R batteries in weather station. Also changed them in the thermostat in the guesthouse.

Mulched the asparagus bed. They should start popping up in about a month.

Finally got into the garden to check the results of the cold front almost two weeks ago. i lost 99.9 % of everything. Lettuce, mustard greens, spinach, cabbage, califlour, carrotts etc., all dead. I replanted some spinach, lettuce and mustard greens. My spinach and mustard greens were going to be some of the best i have had in years.

Went to town to get my blood tests for next week's yearly physical.

Fed the cattle.

The welders are almost done with the cattle pen, all they have left is the 2 sliding gates in the chute. Then they will start on the 2 corrals.

Cleaned 2 of the 4 tree/lirope beds in the front yard, then fertilized & mulched them.

The welders fabricated the sliding gates & are in the process of hanging them. One of them is already up & it works slicker than snot!!!

The last sliding gate for the new cattle chute is hung, so the working pen is now complete. The welders started working on replacing the 2 corrals. A lot of drill pipe in these projects, but they will still be here & usable for the next 100 yrs.

Made bread.

Cleaned the last 2 tree/lirope beds in the front yard, then fertilized & mulched them.

Fed the cattle.

We received 0.43" of rain after supper.

Went for my yearly physical.

Fed the cattle.

The welders finished demolishing the old corrals & put up a temporary fence around the work area to keep the cattle out. They got the 8 corner posts set.
