The current "owner" could/should be charged with 'Receiving Stolen Property'. According to section 31 of the Texas Criminal Code, receiving stolen property is considered theft. Texas law considers you responsible for the stolen property even if you did not steal it from its original owner, but rather bought it from someone else.
